The imposing Walker is made by the Imperial Ministry of Defence. This 60 km/h armoured vehicle is used for ground assaults, including for attacking the rebel base on the ice planet Hoth. Its heavy armour makes it almost impossible for conventional weapons to damage an AT-AT. Their unstoppable lumbering approach has fatal consequences for soldiers, as its feet can squash heavy materiel without difficulty. The psychological effect alone is often sufficient to decide the outcome of the battle. Originally designed as a troop transport, the AT-AT is also used extensively as a combat vehicle. The heavy armament on the head, that fires devastating laser cannon, covers an extensive field of fire as the head sweeps in all directions. This all-terrain armoured transport is set down on planets and picked up by large landing craft that keep well away from the combat zone. In the battles on Hoth, the Snowspeeders proved to be effective opponents, capable of knocking out several AT-ATs, but they only succeeded in delaying the advance of the Imperial troops for a limited time.
